The Oratory of San Giacomo, not far from the center of Paderno, was built on an unspecified date. The building originated as a hospice, then called a “hospital”, and has an annexed structure with one or two rooms to provide accommodation for passing pilgrims. This condition suggests that the oratory is much older than the 14th century. On March 30, 1493, the notary Giordano Compagnon, son of the late ser Nicolò, as procurator of the church of San Giacomo di Paderno, granted Bonagrazia, son of the late Simeone di Giovanni Matto da Ronche, to reside without any condition in the hospital “ad tempus mei beneplacitum”. Bonagrazia, in return, undertook to maintain the oratory.
Subsequent information dates from the 18th century: in 1711, an agreement was stipulated between the municipalities of Paderno and Fietta with the Compagnoni family for the use of the church of San Giacomo. In 1735, the church, still owned by the Compagnoni of Asolo, was purchased by Domenico Filippin, son of the late Gasparo da Paderno, after whose death it was donated to the municipality of Paderno.
